Elecampane (Inula Helenium) Flowers by Alexandra Cook
Elecampane (Inula Helenium) Flowers by Alexandra Cook

An outdoor watercolor, ink pens and pencils painting of daisy-like yellow flowers of Elecampane, also called Horse-heal (Inula helenium) or Marchalan (in Welsh). Done on a sunny August day in my mother garden in Russia. If you look carefully you may notice a brown butterfly, sitting on one of the flowers. The size of the original painting is approximately 12 x 8.5 inches, on sale here: http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=Shop&op=listing&product_id=436259

In the summer 2009 we had incredible amount of butterflies near Moscow. I've been watching them landing on theese lovely (although wild and invasive) flowers for hours.
